The international Summer School F_LAND, in compliance with the EU Green Deal and Farm-to-Fork strategies, aims at teaching how to apply a fully integrated and multi-disciplinary approach in landscape planning and design to valorize local territories.

 

The aim of the course is to train students on the analysis, design and management proposal for the safeguard and enhancement of inner areas and their agri-food and forest productions. In view of the ongoing and foreseeable environment transformations, the students will be given the opportunity to acquire operational skills in infrastructural, environmental, and landscape planning and, more specifically, in agroforestry landscape; the students will also benefit from the most valuable international expertise in this field. 

 

The programme, based on theoretical and practical activities, lectures, seminars, field visits and workgroups, will provide to the participants an innovating, interdisciplinary working methodology, both large-scale environmental and socio-economic issues.

 

To train participants to plan useful projects aimed at coping with rural and peri-urban transformational challenges, four teaching subject units are proposed and reported in the provisional program table. Each subject includes several topics and will be developed through different learning approaches which encourage the interaction among participants. Lectures and other activities will be carried out by professors and researchers from Italian and international Universities and Research center, as reported in the detailed program table.

 

F_LAND is proposed by University of Tuscia in cooperation with China Jiliang University, Universidad Nacional de Chilecito, Akdeniz University, University of Exeter, Wageningen University, University of Valladolid, University of Florence and with the support of CREA Research Centre for Forestry and Wood.

Basic information

The summer school will be residential (premises of the Alpine Study Centre, owned by University of Tuscia and located in Pieve Tesino, Trento, Northern Italy) both for students and for lecturers for a full time experience of discussion and networking in the beautiful environment of Trentino mountains.

 

The F_LAND programme will provide outdoor activities, hiking equipment is recommended.

 

English will be used as a working language.

 

 

CALL FOR APPLICANT

Participation Fee

Thanks to the funding provided by the Internationalization Programme of the University of Tuscia the registration fee for entire Summer School is 250,00 euro (€). The fee includes:

  • All lectures and seminars;
  • Course materials;
  • Participation to field visits and other field activities;
  • Accommodation at the Alpine Study Centre from the 12th (arrival) to the 25th (departure), June 2022;
  • Breakfast, coffee breaks and light lunch;
  • Dinners at the local restaurant;
  • Tours organized at 18-19 June 2022 weekend.

 

Admission criteria

The summer school has 15 places for students enrolled in bachelor or master degree or PhD course. The summer school will take place if a minimum number of 10 participants is reached.

The admission criteria are the following:

  • English language proficiency
  • For students enrolled in Universities other than Italian: applicants will be asked to prove that they are enrolled as students and that they have passed relevant exams or received degree certificates related to, at least, one of the following topics: landscape design and planning, botany, forestry and agricultural science, rural development.
  • For students enrolled in Italian Universities: applicants will be asked to prove that they are enrolled in the second year of the first level Degree in L21 or L25 or enrolled as a Master Degree student in LM3 or LM73. In both cases, at least 12 CFU in courses of the following SSDs: AGR01, AGR03; AGR05; BIO3; ICAR20; ICAR 21; ICAR15 are required

 

Selection of applicants and scholarships

Thanks to the funds provided by Landscape 4.0 - Department of Excellence Projects (Italian Ministry for Education University and Research) 15 scholarships for students enrolled in Universities are available. The scholarship will cover the Summer School Registration fee.

 

The selection of the students will be based on their academic performance as certified in the transcript of records and on their motivational letter. All applications that meet the admission criteria will be examined by the evaluation Commission which will assign the following scores for each candidate.

The selection criteria are the following:

  • Exams score evaluations                        max. 30 points
  • Skill relevant for F_LAND topics             max. 40 points
  • Motivation letter                                    max. 30 points

 

A minimum 50 point overall score is required for Admission.


The first 15 candidates in the rank will be entitled to a scholarship. 5 scholarships are reserved to students from a not Italian partner University of this Summer School. Scholarships not awarded to partner University students will be awarded to students with the highest scores in the ranking positions. 

 

 

Application documents and registration confirmation procedures

The registration procedure for the selection started on February, 20th, 2022 and will end on April, 22nd, 2022.

 

Applicants are required to send the following documents, via email, to f_land@unitus.it

  • Transcript of records with exams and grades
  • Motivational letter (in English)
  • Curriculum Vitae et Studiorum
  • English language certification (CERF language level or self-declaration)
  • Front/back copy of a valid identity document

 

Any application received after the deadline of April, 22nd, 2022 will be considered only if there are positions left to reach the maximum number of places available.

 

Successful applicants will be notified via email by April, 30th, 2022.

 

Students entitled to a scholarship have to confirm their participation sending an email to the Summer School Administration (f_land@unitus.it) by  May, 15th, 2022.

 

Admitted students will be required to confirm their participation and pay the entire fee (scholarship students excepted) by bank transfer to University of Tuscia at INTESA SANPAOLO SPA IBAN IT60 H030 6914 5001 0000 0300 011 - object “FLAND Summer School 2022”;

Students who have duly paid the fee are also required to send an email to the Summer School Administration (f_land@unitus.it) within May, 15th, 2022 to confirm their application with bank transfer receipt attached.

 

 

 

Venue  

The Summer school will be held in Pieve Tesino, a small town in Trento Province (North-Eastern Italy) at the Alpine Study Centre (CSALP) of the University of Tuscia, from June 12th to 25th, 2022.
