The Landscape, planning and design Degree Course issues from an Academic synergy between Tuscia University (former Faculty of Agriculture) and the Faculty of Architecture of Sapienza University of Rome.

The Course seeks to develop the discipline and the knowledge necessary to address the important environmental and design issues faced by society.

Meeting the evergrowing demand for highly qualified professionals , both at national and European level, being  a priority goal, the Curriculum  will provide the students with   relevant cultural competence and  skills in the analysis, design, management and  promotion  of the territory both in the rural and  peri-urban/urban areas.

Qualified graduates will  be able to deal, with  an innovating, interdisciplinary  approach,  with   large-scale environmental ,urban and  socio-economic  issues.

Also, in the light of  the ongoing and future  and foreseeable  environmental transformations, the course seeks to develop the competence  and    operational skills in infrastructural,  environmental and  landscape planning in particular, as well as in  agroforestry.

This Joint University Degree  has its main premises at the Faculty of Architecture of “La  Sapienza” University (Piazza di Fontanella di Borghese, Rome).

The administrative offices  of this Joint University Degree  are hosted by  Università della Tuscia  which is in charge of all  enrolment procedures. The Degree has no numerus clausus  and no enrolment restrictions are envisaged but the candidates are expected to undergo an entry test.

  • Learning objectives

    The Degree will provide the students with theoretical, interpretative and methodological knowledge as well as with the competence and skills necessary to access the job market or to complete further studies.

    To this end, the Curriculum is designed to foster knowledge in Earth Science,  Biological, Agricultural and Forestry Systems, in Environmental, Urban and Landscape Science; it also provides the methodological tools to design and intervene on landscapes, urban contexts and on the environment.

     

    The Curriculum promotes  the acquisition of fundamental skills in Landscape and Environmental Planning and Design, and more specifically, the foundations of :

    • characteristics, properties and functions of agricultural systems which define agricultural lands and landscapes;
    • techniques to describe, analyse and manage forestry ecosystems and forest planning;
    • techniques required  to design parks and protected areas as well as to recover degraded natural environments;
    • terrestrial ecosystems through geopedology, botany, environmental chemistry and landscape ecology;
    • architectural history and tools for cartographical, topographical or visual analysis and description;
    • landscape architecture and planning of open spaces;
    • urban planning and techniques required to desig the combination of land, environment and landscape;
    • economics and law with regard to  land and natural resources management and preservation.

     

    To sum up, the theoretical and applied courses  aim to  train graduates  whose qualifications prove useful to work  in fields  that range from activities of representation and interpretation of the rural and urban landscape to the assessment of  environmental transformations and the impact of human activities on the environment;

    The Curriculum also embraces the planning of protected areas and parks, the management of agroforestry and open space systems together with  land protection, safeguard and enhancement.

  • Career opportunities

    The Degree [class L-21], on condition that the candidate has successfully completed the National Examination, is a requisite to enrol in:

    • -the Order of Architects in Landscape Planning and Conservation-sector of Junior Planners of the B section;
    • -the Order of Graduates in Agronomy and Forestry, Junior Agronomy and Forestry – sector of the B section of the Order of Graduates in Agronomy and Forestry.

     

    The degree covers all requirements to access the Master’s Degrees of the LM-3 class (Landscape Architecture), LM-48 (Environmental Urban Land Planning), LM-69 (Agriculture Science and Technology) and LM-73 (Forestry and Environmental Science and Technology) and the like.

    Career opportunities also include the so-called Green Jobs

  • Further education

    Sapienza/Tuscia inter-university Master’s degree course in Landscape Architecture (Official website of LM-3) and, with integrations, Master’s degree course in Environmental and Forestry Sciences (Official website of LM-73), and 1st-level Professional Master programmes.

  • Apprenticeships and Internships (off- campus university training)

    Apprenticeships and Internships are the meeting point between the companies and the students; the curricular internship provides not only an excellent opportunity to acquire a hands-on professional experience, but also  an opportunity to enter the job market.

    With the in-company training, students participate actively and on a continuous basis, in the activities performed at the company premises (the number of training hours being determined by her/his curriculum)

    In-company training is provided for by a pre-scheduled programme; it’s aim is to increase the students’ knowledge and professionalism and help them gradually access the job market

    The training objectives are agreed upon by both the University and the company tutors respectively.

    The Department tutors also give the students career guidance, suggest the procedures to activate the internship, provide explanations to complete forms and supply any other technical advice they may possibly need.

    Specific traineeships: on notice at Tenuta di Castelporziano (Rome), activities at CSALP – UNITUS (held in Pieve Tesino), trainings, international summer schools and educational trips.
