Research grants

The research grant is envisaged by Article 22 of Law no. 240 of 30 December 2010 and is the instrument through which universities may award appointments for the performance of research activities to scholars with a suitable professional scientific curriculum.

The grants may last between one and three years, are renewable and may not be cumulated with scholarships for any reason whatsoever, with the exception of those granted by national or foreign institutions useful for integrating the holders’ research activities with stays abroad.

The overall duration cannot in any case exceed four years, excluding the period in which the cheque is used to coincide with the research doctorate, within the maximum limit of the legal duration of the relative course.

The cheque is not compatible with participation in degree courses, specialised or master’s degrees, or PhD courses with scholarships.

The collaboration in research activities activated by cheque is advertised by means of a call for applications in which the University may establish that a PhD or equivalent qualification obtained abroad, for the sectors concerned, is a compulsory requirement for admission to the call for applications; in the absence of such a provision, the PhD is a preferential qualification for the purpose of awarding cheques.
