The Erasmus+ Program is the most popular EU-funded international exchange program that allows a university student to spend from three to 12 months at a European university for study or an internship. It allows, from the second year of study, students to take courses, sit for exams, and obtain recognition, and supports the student abroad with an EU financial contribution. With Erasmus+ student status comes guaranteed academic recognition for completed educational activities, exemption from paying tuition fees at the host institution (those of the home institution apply), and the right to use the same services that the host institution offers its students. There are many prestigious DAFNE partner universities where mobility can take place.

The complete list is published on the UNITUS website in the Erasmus Section, usually next to the Call for Applications (see more) Anyone who is regularly enrolled at the University of Tuscia (bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree programs) and has adequate knowledge of the foreign language in which the courses are taught at the destination university may participate. In addition to study, mobility for an internship (traineeship) abroad, from 2 to 12 months, at a company or other organization, in one of the countries participating in the program is also possible. Recent graduates can also apply for traineeships. These must respond to the university’s call for applications and be selected before graduating; from the time of graduation, there are 12 months to carry out the traineeship mobility.

But why go on Erasmus?

• TO LEARN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE. It is one of the goals of almost all participants, who can learn the language faster through immersion in the host country, participating in classes, communicating with other students, or even just experiencing everyday life.
• TO DISCOVER NEW SOCIETIES AND CULTURES. Cultural immersion in a differently structured society is definitely one of the main goals of the program.
• TO BECOME MORE INDEPENDENT AND LEARN TO SOLVE PROBLEMS. Doing Erasmus is a formidable life experience; it makes you mature and become more independent, because having to live alone in a foreign country force you to learn to overcome obstacles on your own. Moving for a few months to a place where you speak a different language, where you often don’t know anyone at first and where you basically must “make do,” away from friends and family, helps you mature problem solving skills useful at any other time in life.
• ACADEMIC RECOGNITION. Thanks to the study plan, the “Learning Agreement,” it is possible to have an unforgettable experience abroad without risking “wasting time.” In fact, your home university will recognize all exams taken during Erasmus if previously agreed upon.
• TO IMPROVE YOUR CURRICULUM. Knowing an extra language, demonstrating resourcefulness, and the ability to adapt to the most diverse and new situations are all characteristics that will go a long way in starting professional life, in the postgraduate moment. Many companies today require their candidates to speak at least one foreign language.
• TO LIVE A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE. A period of living and studying abroad is undoubtedly an added value to your resume, which is why doing Erasmus is important and useful. Not all students, once they finish university can say they have had this experience. You can then stand out from many of your peers when entering the world of work.
• TO MAKE NEW FRIENDS. What better opportunity to meet and make friends with young people from various European countries?
• TO STIMULATE THE WANT TO TRAVEL. One of the symptoms of post-Erasmus is known as “Erasmus syndrome” which is the anxiety about traveling and wanting to leave again that arises once you return home, when every opportunity becomes the right one to leave once more, such as meeting with Erasmus friends.
