HARNESSTOM

ABSTRACT
HARNESSTOM is an industry-driven Innovation Action that aims to improve the accessibility and to consolidate the use and knowledge of tomato genetic resources in order to tackle the new challenges imposed by consumers and global change threats by fostering the interaction between the different stakeholders in the tomato production chain. HARNESSTOM will address bottlenecks and special challenges identified by industry partners (from producers to seed companies) and by consumers, by facilitating information and access to genetic resources and by developing a series of pre-breeding materials that will accelerate the use of genetic resources and cover the needs of the productive and consumer sector. HARNESSTOM’s innovative management and operational structures will provide an effective operational framework for translating materials, knowledge and know-how from academia and industry to the productive sector, shifting from the lab to focusing on assisting the producers and breeding companies in their commercial needs. Dafne (Partner 20-UNITUS) is mainly engaged in the study of plant reproductive aspects affected by environmental stresses and in the implementation of citizen science and strategies of participative breeding.
