Biology Lab (interdepartmental)

The laboratory of Biology, situated on the ground floor of Block B in the Riello campus, serves as a facility for practical teaching exercises. It accommodates 25 workstations.
The laboratory of Biology is divided into two areas: microscopy and cell culture areas.

In the MICROSCOPY area, there are 25 optical microscopes for examining specimens on slides and 25 stereomicroscopes for analysing fragments or three-dimensional organisms. The laboratory is also equipped with an optical microscope and a stereomicroscope, both connected to a camera for projecting images onto a screen. The laboratory includes all the necessary materials for preparing and observing microscopic specimens (slides, cover slips, tweezers, spray bottles, gloves). Additionally, there is a collection of vertebrates and invertebrates for the study of morphology, as well as materials required for preparing and observing microscopic specimens.

The CELL CULTURE area is equipped with two laminar flow cabinets (one vertical and one horizontal) for sterile cell culture, a CO2 incubator for cell cultures, a thermostatic incubator, an inverted microscope for viewing live cells on plates, bench centrifuges for 1.5/2 ml tubes and 15 ml tubes, a spectrophotometer, equipment for DNA and protein electrophoresis, a thermostatic water bath, and other small bench equipment such as electric and manual pipettors for various volumes, heating plates, and tube stirrers.

The laboratory of Biology is used for both three-years and Master’s Degree Courses.
