The Psychological Counseling Service

Psychological Counseling: What Is It About?

The University of Tuscia cares about the well-being of its students and provides a psychological counseling service.

If you are experiencing emotional or relational difficulties, anxiety, or self-esteem issues related to your academic environment, or if you are struggling with exams and experiencing distress, you will find a safe place here to start addressing the challenges that may be hindering your academic journey and receive expert guidance.

The service is open to all students, completely free, and includes 4 sessions with a psychologist/psychotherapist.

 

The stages of the psychological counseling process are as follows

  • Initial Welcome and Consultation: The psychological counseling process begins with an initial introductory meeting aimed at providing the student with a space and time to express their concerns, understand their difficulties, and evaluate the start of a targeted counseling journey.
  • Individual Psychological Support: Following the initial consultation, the student may decide to receive individual psychological support. Three sessions are scheduled on a weekly basis, each lasting 50 minutes. The purpose of these sessions is to help the student expand self-awareness, clarify the difficulties experienced in challenging situations, and understand how to address them in the best way.
  • Referral to Other Professionals and Local Mental Health Services: Once the series of 4 counseling sessions is completed, the student may choose to continue with a longer-term intervention (e.g., psychotherapy), or it may be determined that the counseling intervention is not appropriate or is insufficient for the presented difficulty. In such cases, the psychologist can provide the student with useful contacts to seek further assistance.

 

How to proceed?

To book the initial consultation, you need to fill out this Google Form. The student will be contacted directly by the specialist to arrange a suitable date for the introductory meeting.

It is possible to have the meetings either in person or remotely, in agreement with the professional. Remote consultations will be conducted via Skype, Google Meet, or Zoom, and the access link will be sent to the student on the same day of the appointment to the email address provided during booking. In the case of in-person meetings, it is important to adhere to the COVID-19 safety rules: wear masks, sanitize your hands, and maintain a interpersonal distance of at least one meter.

For any changes to the appointment, it is necessary to inform the secretariat at least three days in advance by sending an email to consulenzapsicologica@unitus.it. In case of a missed appointment without sufficient prior notice, the student will forfeit the right to use the counseling service.
