ABSTRACT 

In alignment with the Lazio RDP 2014-2022 – sub-measure 10.2, operation type 10.2.2 “Support for the conservation of genetic resources through ex situ collections,” the project aims to modernize the Leprino di Viterbo rabbit breeding center to ensure the secure conservation of the breed. The goal is to accommodate at least 12 breeders (9 females and 3 males) and raise around 150 rabbits for fattening. In addition to purchasing new, more spacious breeding cages to enhance animal welfare, the project will include the installation of automatic feed and water distribution systems. For the first time, a genetic analysis of selected breeders will be conducted using NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) to identify any genetic peculiarities compared to other breeds.
