The Plant Physiology and Biotechnology Laboratory research lines aim to combine scientific knowledge with innovative biotechnological methods both to improve the resilience of crops to environmental stresses and to allow high productivity by reducing the usage of chemicals and water in agriculture.

The Laboratory is equipped with modern scientific instruments used to carry out both research and teaching activities (e.g. theses and training internships).

The main research objectives focus on:

• Characterization of genes and molecular mechanisms that regulate resistance to (biotic) stresses;
• Development of innovative strategies for the engineering of hormonal signaling pathways for the benefit of both immunity and productivity;
• Development of biocontrol strategies based on the valorization and recycling of wet-organic waste;
• Identification of the signal molecules involved in wheat-symbiotic fungi communication and study of their role in the induced-resistance to stresses.
