One of the aims of the Department of Economics, Engineering, Society, and Business Organization is to create a link between the academic path and the job market. During internships, students apply the knowledge gained from their university courses in a work environment and develop new skills related to their future profession. This experience is crucial for both personal and professional growth, as it provides initial contact with the job market and represents a fundamental element in building a curriculum.
The internship consists of a training period at companies, professional studios, businesses, laboratories, or public institutions and entities external to the University. It must be completed during the course of study and cannot exceed 12 months. Students also have the opportunity to carry out internships at the host University in the case of international mobility, as well as an additional internship within 12 months of graduation. Each student is supported by a professional tutor within the host organization and an academic tutor chosen from the Department’s faculty, who ensures compliance with the agreed training project. The internship request must be submitted following the guidelines provided below.
The Curricular Internship represents one of the first opportunities for students to engage with the professional world, serving as a valuable tool for acquiring additional knowledge and gaining initial work experience. During the curricular internship, students participate consistently and continuously, for the total number of hours required to obtain the ECTS credits set by their study program (each ECTS corresponds to 25 hours of actual work), in the activities of the host organization (company, professional studio, public or private institution) according to a plan aimed at achieving specific learning objectives. These objectives are pre-established between the host organization and the Department, facilitated by a company tutor and an academic tutor.

Students can earn ECTS credits by working individually or in groups under the guidance of a university tutor on a specific topic or project agreed upon in advance. This project may also involve external support from a company or institution. Through the designated methods, students learn to work towards specific goals, meet deadlines, and coordinate and adapt their contributions, particularly in a team-working environment.
Once the project is defined and planned, it is developed over the necessary number of hours required to earn the credits (25 hours of activity per ECTS), with activities carried out at the university and/or through independent work at home.
Upon achieving the required objectives, students present their work and activities to a committee of three faculty members from the study program, chaired by the project work tutor, who certifies the acquisition of the corresponding ECTS credits based on the number of hours completed.
Procedure for Activating and Conducting a Project Work
In exceptional cases, credits for professional activities may be recognized based on work or professional activities already completed or ongoing, provided that they are consistent with the learning objectives of the study program.
Procedure for Recognition of Professional Experience Credits
To obtain recognition of the ECTS credits, the student must submit a Request for Recognition of Professional Experience (credit recognition request) through the GOMP Portal, but only if the recognition of the credits required by the study program for professional activities is complete.
The request must be accompanied by a statement from the employer (on company letterhead) certifying the completion of the required working hours necessary to earn the ECTS credits (25 hours for 1 ECTS), specifying the period during which the work was carried out, along with a brief description of the tasks performed.
If recognition is requested for a partial number of credits (for instance, because some credits have already been acquired through participation in seminars or webinars), the same documentation should be sent via email to the Department’s Academic Office at segr.didattica.soge@unitus.it, specifying in the recognition form the number of ECTS credits for which recognition is requested.
The professionally oriented Bachelor’s degree program in Techniques for Green Building requires the acquisition of at least 48 ECTS credits (25 hours per ECTS) through Practical-Evaluative Internships (TPV). These internships are conducted at companies, businesses, professional firms, public administrations, public or private entities, including those in the third sector, or professional orders or associations, and are aimed at acquiring professional knowledge, skills, and competencies aligned with the qualifying educational objectives of the L-P01 degree class.
The DEIM Department, in collaboration with the College of Surveyors and Graduated Surveyors of Viterbo and the College of Industrial Technicians of Viterbo, has established agreements with local entities (see the section on Partner Organizations and Companies), where third-year students can carry out their TPV activities. These internships are also essential for obtaining professional qualifications as a Graduate Surveyor or an Industrial Construction Technician.
