ABSTRACT
The ANCoSIX Project aims at a sustainable containment of Xylella fastidiosa to help the italian olive farming, especially the apulian one, as well as to reduce the amount of chemical-based pesticides by proposing innovative and sustainable approaches to control plant diseases. In the ANCoSIX project, the operational units work synergistically in order to develop multiple and multifunctional control strategies based on the use of natural bactericides, harmless to the plant and animals (punicalagin, a molecule extracted from pomegranate peels, antimicrobial peptides and bacteriophages) , on the application of innovative techniques, such as nanotechnology, and on the recovery and valorisation of waste products in implementation of the principles of circular economy. The developed nanoformulations will be tested to verify their effectiveness (in the laboratory and in a controlled environment) and therefore the most promising strategy will then be applied directly in the open field, in olive tree naturally infected by Xyella fastidiosa, to verify its functionality.
