Thesis and Degree Exams

How to write your thesis?

The thesis is the written document that represents the final outcome of your university studies.

Writing a thesis demonstrates your understanding of the field of study, analytical skills, and ability to develop coherent arguments based on thorough research, data collection, analysis, and source discussion.

Below are the exact specifications for the structure, content, and requirements of both undergraduate and graduate theses.

  • Undergraduate Thesis

    Undergraduate thesis consists of the dissertation of a thesis in the presence of a commission composed of professors from the Department.

    It is a written work (approximately 40-50 pages), focusing on a thematic in-depth study related to one of the courses in the curriculum, and drafted under the supervision of a supervisor (professor of the chosen subject). The thesis is recognized with 4 CFU (university credits). Evaluation is expressed in one hundredth (110). The final score is calculated based on the didactic regulations of the specific curriculum, supplemented by a score assigned by the commission.

    The Undergraduate Thesis must adhere to the following FORMAT.

  • Master's Thesis

    The final exam consists of the dissertation of a master’s thesis in the presence of a committee (composed of professors from the Department).

    It is a written work, focusing on a topic related to the course of study, drafted under the supervision of an advisor (a professor who specializes in the topic). The thesis must demonstrate advanced competence in the relevant discipline and contribute a theoretical and/or empirical contribution. The student should demonstrate a complete mastery of the topic and analytical skills, with particular reference to: analysis of the theoretical foundations and methodological principles of the topic; the student’s personal research contribution, ideally in the form of original work; critical concluding analysis. The work must be consistent in terms of effort and learning objectives required for the fixed number of credits: 16 CFU.

    The evaluation is expressed in one-hundredths (110). The final score is calculated based on the educational regulations applicable to the student, supplemented by a score assigned by the committee.

  • Undergraduate and Graduate Thesis - Engineering

    TESI TRIENNALE

    Lo studente può sostenere la prova finale dopo aver conseguito tutti i crediti previsti dal percorso formativo.
    La prova finale per il conseguimento del titolo di studio consiste:

    • nella preparazione, sotto la supervisione di un relatore, di un elaborato scritto di massimo 30 pagine nel formato predisposto, avente come ad oggetto un argomento inerente al percorso di studio;
    • nella breve presentazione orale (massimo 5 minuti) di un poster (in formato digitale, singola slide in formato orizzontale 16:9) che sintetizza l’elaborato, di fronte ad una commissione di docenti del corso di studio.

    L’elaborato può essere redatto in lingua inglese così come la sua presentazione può svolgersi in inglese.

     

     

    TESI MAGISTRALE

    Lo studente può sostenere la prova finale dopo aver conseguito tutti i crediti previsti dal percorso formativo.
    La prova finale per il conseguimento del titolo di studio consiste:

    • nella preparazione, sotto la supervisione di un relatore, di un elaborato scritto di estensione adeguata nel formato predisposto, avente come ad oggetto un argomento inerente al percorso di studio;
    • nella discussione orale (massimo 20 minuti) di una presentazione (in formato digitale) che illustra l’elaborato, di fronte ad una commissione di docenti del corso di studio.

    L’elaborato può essere redatto in lingua inglese così come la sua presentazione può svolgersi in inglese.

     

    UNDERGRADUATE THESIS

    The student can undertake the final examination after obtaining all the credits required by the study program. The final examination for the attainment of the degree consists of:

    Preparation, under the supervision of a supervisor, of a written work of a maximum of 30 pages in the prescribed format, concerning a topic related to the study program. A brief oral presentation (maximum 5 minutes) of a poster (in digital format, single slide in horizontal 16:9 format) summarizing the written work, in front of a commission of course teachers.

    The written work can be written in English, and its presentation can also be conducted in English.

    MASTER’S THESIS

    The student can undertake the final examination after obtaining all the credits required by the study program. The final examination for the attainment of the degree consists of:

    Preparation, under the supervision of a supervisor, of a written work of appropriate extension in the prescribed format, concerning a topic related to the study program. An oral discussion (maximum 20 minutes) of a presentation (in digital format) illustrating the written work, in front of a commission of course teachers.

    The written work can be written in English, and its presentation can also be conducted in English.
