The research fellowship is provided for by Article 22 of Law No. 240 of December 30, 2010, and is the instrument through which universities can assign tasks for the performance of research activities to scholars with a suitable scientific and professional curriculum. The research fellowship can have a duration ranging from one to three years, are renewable, and cannot be combined with scholarships awarded for any reason, except for those granted by national or foreign institutions that are useful for integrating the research activity of the holders with stays abroad. The total duration cannot, however, exceed four years, excluding the period during which the research fellowship was used in conjunction with a PhD program, within the maximum limit of the legal duration of the respective course.
The research fellowship is not compatible with participation in bachelor’s, specialist or master’s degree courses, or PhD programs with a scholarship.
