The LAI&GIS/Gaming Laboratory is a hub for experimentation, innovation, and development aimed at studying and researching five main areas:
This laboratory primarily targets students and graduates of the DIKE Department but also welcomes students from other disciplines. The goal is to train professionals capable of fostering collaboration in the fields of research and technological innovation, while also reclaiming and enhancing the valuable cultural and environmental heritage of inner areas. The laboratory promotes training activities utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which can suggest competitive pathways and solutions to integrate tourism and culture with business and market, within the framework of sustainable and durable development policies.
Objectives:
The LAI&GIS/Gaming Laboratory aims to equip students with the skills and abilities necessary to critically reflect on the role of geographic information and the logic of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the planning and enhancement of historical, cultural, environmental, and tourism aspects of inner areas.
The practical exercises on the capabilities of GIS will employ open-source GIS software provided by the instructor.
Students will be encouraged to participate in conferences, exhibitions, seminars, and scientific events aimed at spreading knowledge about the importance of geographic documentation and tools for interpreting territorial reality. Students may also get involved in projects promoted under agreements that LAI has established over the years (IBAF-CNR, “Giuseppe Caraci” Geocartographic Laboratory – ROMATRE, “Ferdinando Milone” Geographic Mediation Laboratory – LUMSA, Department of Documentary, Linguistic-Philological and Geographic Sciences – Sapienza).
