Dear students, it is a great pleasure to welcome you to the University of Tuscia. I am the Director of the Department of Ecological and Biological Sciences, which you will learn to call familiarly and faster, DEB. In the university system, the Departments are the fulcrum of teaching and research activities, which together form the basis of the cultural and professional growth of university students.

The educational offer of the Universities is divided into two degree programs in series: the Bachelor’s Degrees, three-year, and the Master’s Degrees, two-year, which provide an in-depth specialized preparation of some of the aspects covered in the three-year courses. The educational offer of the DEB includes eight degree courses, four first level and four master’s.

For those who want to further pursue their training in the field of research, the DEB also offers the opportunity to attend the PhD course in Ecology and Sustainable Management of Environmental Resources.

The degree and PhD thesis will be carried out in the numerous laboratories in which the DEB is divided, and which are led by professors and researchers of the highest level, who publish in the best international scientific journals and have earned national and international recognition.

The research laboratories active at the Viterbo headquarters are: Comparative Anatomy and Developmental Biology, Biochemistry, Bioclimatology, Biophysics and Nanoscience, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Botany and Mycology, Organic Chemistry and Natural Substances, Cytology, Dietetics and Functional Foods, Ecology, Mushroom and Algae Ecology, Genetics, Hydrobiology, Hydrogeology, Immunology, Mathematics, Microbiology, Biological Oceanography and Zoology. In addition to these are the Marine Experimental Ichthyogenic Center (CISMAR) at the Saline di Tarquinia Nature Reserve and the Laboratory of Experimental Oceanology and Marine Ecology (LOSEM) in Civitavecchia.

The Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree courses of the DEB prepare researchers, technicians and highly specialized professionals in the biological, naturalistic and environmental fields.

In your study paths you will be followed and you will be able to interact directly and constantly with all the professors and researchers of our Department, in particular with the group of teachers who manage the Degree Courses, the delegates for guidance and tutoring, the administrative staff who preside over the organizational and logistical aspects of the teaching activity. I hope to see many of you attend our classrooms, with the curiosity and passion that animate those interested in life sciences.
