Alessandro Boccolini

ITA: Alessandro Boccolini è Professore Associato in Storia Moderna (M-Sto/02) presso l’Università degli Studi della Tuscia (Viterbo) dove insegna Storia dell’Europa Orientale e Storia dei Paesi Slavi nel corso di Laurea di Scienze Politiche e delle Relazioni Internazionali (classe L-36), e Storia dell'Europa di Centro per Scienze Umanistiche L10. Nel 2015 ha ottenuto il dottorato di ricerca in "Storia e cultura del viaggio e dell’odeporica in Età Moderna". È stato Research Fellow (2015) per l’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Stoccolma e la Fondazione Clerici con un progetto intitolato "Italian travelers in Sweden during the Modern Age" condotto presso la Dalarna University di Falun (Svezia). Per l’a.a. 2019/20 è Visiting Research e Visiting Professor presso la Taras Shevchenko National University di Kyiv (Ucraina), e nel 2020 Visiting Professor presso l'Italian Centre "Leonardo da Vinci" della Lviv Polytechnic National University (Ucraina). La sua ricerca si focalizza sul tema dei rapporti diplomatici in Età Moderna, con particolare attenzione a quelli intessuti tra la Santa Sede e l’Europa Centro-orientale. È membro del CESPoM (Centro Studi sull’Età dei Sobieski e della Polonia Moderna) e direttore della rivista internazionale di Fascia A Anvur "Eastern European History Review" ISSN 2612-0402. È membro ordinario del C.I.R.V.I (Centro interuniversitario di Ricerche sul viaggio in Italia). È membro del Comitato Tecnico Scientifico del D.T.C. Lazio (Distretto tecnologico e centro di eccellenza) e del collegio dei docenti nel Dottorato in "Storia e culture dell'Europa" presso l'Università la Sapienza di Roma. Ricopre inoltre l'incarico di corrispondente scientifico per l'Istituto Nazionale di Studi Romani di Roma. Dal 2023 è Professore Invitato presso il Collegium Maximum della Pontificia Università Gregoriana. Nel 2025, Boccolini è stato insignito del premio Janta Travel Award presso la Kenneth Spencer Research Library- University of Kansas per un progetto di ricerca intitolato "The Holy See and Multiconfessionalism in Poland: The Graziani-Commendone Archive as a Source for the Study of Papal Politics in the Early Modern Age (16th Century)". Nel 2026 è visiting scholar presso l'University of Kansas. Partecipa e pubblica a livello nazionale e internazionale. È coordinatore accademico e scientifico di progetti con università e istituzioni dell’Europa orientale. Nel dicembre 2023 ha ottenuto l'Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale alle funzioni di professore universitario di Prima Fascia nel Settore Concorsuale 11/A2 - Storia Moderna .....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................BIO STATEMENT IN ENGLISH: Alessandro Boccolini serves as an Associate Professor of Modern History at the University of Tuscia in Italy, where his pedagogical focus encompasses Eastern European history, Central European history, and the history of Slavic nations. He earned his PhD with a specialisation in the “History and Culture of Travel and Travel Literature in Modern History”. His academic trajectory includes a research fellowship at the Institute of Italian Culture in Stockholm and the Clerici Foundation, followed by a postdoctoral appointment at Dalarna University in Falun, Sweden. There, he conducted a project titled "Italian Travellers in Sweden during the Modern Age". In the academic year 2019/20, Boccolini held the position of Visiting Researcher and Visiting Professor at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and subsequently served as a Visiting Professor at the Italian Centre "Leonardo da Vinci" of Lviv Polytechnic National University in Ukraine in 2020. His research primarily focuses on the theme of papal diplomacy during the modern era, with a particular emphasis on the functions of the papal nuncio in Central and Eastern Europe. Additionally, his scholarly inquiries extend to the history of travel and the experiences of Italian travellers across Europe, especially within the Central and Eastern regions. Boccolini is a recognised member of various scholarly organisations, including CESPoM (Centre for the Study on the Sobieski Age and Modern Poland) and serves as the editor of the “Eastern European History Review”, a peer-reviewed journal recognised by ANVUR (Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes) with a classification of Fascia A. He is also an ordinary member of C.I.R.V.I. (Centro Interuniversitario di Ricerche sul Viaggio in Italia), and contributes to the scientific council of D.T.C. Lazio (Technological District and Centre of Excellence), in addition to serving as a member of the scientific board for the PhD program in "History of Europe" at Sapienza University of Rome. Furthermore, he holds the position of "corrispondente scientifico" for the Istituto Nazionale di Studi Romani in Rome. Since 2023 he has been a Visiting Professor at the Collegium Maximum of the Pontifical Gregorian University. In 2025, Boccolini was honoured with the Janta Travel Award by the Kenneth Spencer Research Library of the University of Kansas for his research project titled "The Holy See and Multiconfessionalism in Poland: The Graziani-Commendone Archive as a Source for the Study of Papal Politics in the Early Modern Age (16th Century)". He actively publishes his research findings and partakes in national and international conferences, collaborating on research projects with various Eastern European universities and institutions. In December 2023, he successfully attained the National Scientific Qualification (A.S.N.) for the role of Full Professor in Modern History.
