ABSTRACT 

The Tethys Plus project is intended to complement an existing decision support system in the field of precision agriculture. The lines of development identified include: the extension of irrigation advice for tree crops, the implementation of a precision fertilisation service, and the development of a system for estimating water consumption at territorial level. These services will lead to an increase in farm efficiency in terms of reducing fertilisation and water consumption for irrigation, mitigating impacts on the quantity of water available, soil quality, and surface and groundwater. In addition, the use of DSS contributes to climate change mitigation by reducing the use of nitrogen fertilisers, precursors of the climate altering gas nitrous oxide, and to adaptation to climate change itself by the agricultural sector, as it guides the farmer towards conscious irrigation. Finally, the estimation of irrigation consumption at district level will allow the land reclamation consortia to apply rates based on consumption and not on surface area that do not stimulate virtuous behaviour in farmers aimed at saving the resource.
