ABSTRACT
The project aim is to improve the chestnut wood production process by focusing on the supply of wood material through forestry uses. The first phase of the project activities will concern the analysis of working times and pollutant emissions from the forest yard and the harvesting systems used to date (CTL and TLS). On the basis of the information obtained, improvements to both harvesting systems will be proposed, as well as a decision support system that will allow operators to have a decision-making tool that is able to recommend the most suitable work system, on a forest yard. As regards the felling operation, the possible feasibility of introducing electric-motor chainsaws will be assessed, which theoretically could reduce emissions but on which extensive evidence regarding efficiency in the forest is still lacking, especially on broadleaf wood.
