From 7 to 11 July 2025, the University of Tuscia hosted in Viterbo the international Summer School “Emerging Genetic-Engineering Technologies for Crop Resilience (RE-ENFORCE)”, organized within the framework of the European League for Life Sciences (ELLS).
The initiative was further strengthened through the synergy established with Mediterranean partner countries under the TNE IMPACT project, which enabled the participation of universities and academic staff from outside Europe, fostering international scientific exchange and cooperation.
The Summer School brought together students, researchers, and lecturers to explore the latest advances in genetic engineering technologies for enhancing crop resilience and promoting sustainable agriculture. Through lectures, practical sessions, and interdisciplinary discussions, participants had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of innovative approaches to addressing global agricultural challenges.
A significant contribution of the TNE IMPACT project was the involvement of incoming students from Morocco and Egypt, whose participation enriched the international dimension of the programme and promoted intercultural dialogue among participants.
The initiative represents a concrete example of the University of Tuscia’s commitment to internationalization, capacity building, and the development of strategic academic partnerships, in line with the objectives of the TNE IMPACT project.
As part of the internationalisation activities promoted under the TNE IMPACT project, launched in October 2024 and currently ongoing, the University of Tuscia carried out a series of institutional and academic missions between February and April 2025 aimed at strengthening cooperation with universities and institutions in partner countries, promoting its educational offer, and expanding international mobility opportunities.
In February 2025, a UNITUS delegation visited Galala University (Egypt), where it participated in the First International Conference “Frontiers in Basic and Applied Sciences for Sustainability and Innovation”, contributing to scientific discussions and reinforcing academic cooperation with Egyptian partners. During the mission, a Memorandum of Understanding was submitted for signature, paving the way for the development of a Double Degree agreement between the Plant Biotechnology programme at UNITUS and the Applied Biotechnology in Food Industries programme at Galala University. The delegation also met representatives of the Italian Embassy in Cairo to discuss ongoing and future academic collaborations.
In March 2025, UNITUS conducted an institutional mission to Rabat (Morocco), engaging with students and academic staff of the Institut Agronomique et Vétérinaire Hassan II (IAV). The delegation presented the University of Tuscia, the educational opportunities offered by the Department of Agricultural and Forest Sciences (DAFNE), and the international mobility schemes available through the TNE IMPACT project. The mission also included a meeting with the Italian Ambassador to Morocco, focused on strengthening cooperation with Moroccan institutions and identifying new opportunities for academic engagement.
During the same period, UNITUS participated in the 45th IEFT Spring Fairs in Istanbul (Türkiye), promoting its degree programmes and international opportunities to prospective students, thereby enhancing the University’s visibility in an important recruitment market.
A second mission to Morocco took place in April 2025 with the participation of UNITUS representatives in the Salon International de l’Agriculture au Maroc (SIAM) in Meknès. Through presentations and networking activities, the University showcased its educational and research excellence, particularly in the fields of agriculture, environment and innovation, further consolidating partnerships with local academic and institutional stakeholders.
These initiatives have significantly contributed to increasing the international visibility of the University of Tuscia, fostering strategic partnerships, and creating new opportunities for student and staff mobility in line with the objectives of the TNE IMPACT project.
November 7th, 2024
Within the framework of the TNE IMPACT project, a dedicated webinar was held focusing on the development, management and consolidation of Double Degree Agreements.
The session, coordinated by Prof. Simone Severini (University of Tuscia), highlighted the strategic role of structured inter-university partnerships in strengthening student mobility and improving the quality of international learning experiences. Particular attention was given to the growing number of students involved in double degree programmes and to the need for well-defined and shared procedures among partner institutions.
The webinar also presented recent activities carried out within the project in relation to double degree agreements, underlining the complexity of administrative and academic processes and the importance of continuous improvement to ensure clarity, efficiency and transparency.
Discussions further addressed the challenges faced by students, including thesis development during and after the pandemic context, the integration of bachelor and master pathways, and the operational management of joint programmes. Emphasis was placed on the need for clear communication, robust documentation, and coordinated institutional support.
Overall, the webinar contributed to reinforcing the common understanding that Double Degree Agreements are a key instrument for fostering sustainable academic cooperation, enhancing student opportunities, and supporting the internationalisation strategies of partner universities within TNE IMPACT.
