The University initiates a series of services and interventions aimed at promoting the autonomy of students and inclusion in university life, including academics, research, as well as access to services and facilities. The Rector’s Delegate for Inclusion and Equity, Dr. Martina Galli, shares the strategic intervention guidelines with the Departmental Contacts for Accessibility and Inclusion.
Before embarking on their university journey, it is important for students to be fully informed about the initiatives that support assistance, integration, and well-being.
To access the services provided by the University, the certification must be uploaded to the Gomp Portal through the online enrollment procedure for the university course. It is advisable to request information or a specific appointment with the Departmental Contact or the dedicated Office.
The certification must have different characteristics depending on the situation:
There is the possibility of requesting compensatory and dispensatory measures during the entrance tests, including:
These measures can also be requested for midterm exams taken during the rest of the academic year. All forms are available on the University’s website, in the respective sections called ‘Forms,’ and the request must be sent to the professor via email at least 15 days before the exam, with inclusion@unitus.it copied for notification.
Students who have a disability as defined by Article 3, paragraph 1, sub-paragraph 3, of Law 104/92, or who have a disability equal to or greater than 66%, are completely exempt from paying university fees, except for the virtual stamp duty of €16. Those with a disability less than 66% (ranging from 45% to 65%) have a partial exemption of 50% of the fees, except for the regional fee (€140) and the stamp duty (€16).
The possession of a Specific Learning Disorder (DSA) certification exempts from the additional comprehensive contribution if, with an ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator) up to 30,000 euros, you do not meet the requirements of Law 233/16, paragraphs 255 and 256 (related to acquired ECTS credits)..
The University offers the Peer Tutoring service, which consists of individual mentoring activities provided by students to those in need, with the aim of eliminating or reducing obstacles that may arise in the chosen educational path. Due to the uniqueness of each situation, specific tutoring services are determined based on individual needs.
Mediation with professors can also occur with the assistance of the Departmental Contacts; all contacts are available on the Inclusion Commission page.
In 2020, the University purchased the Easyreading font license, a font dedicated to those with dyslexia. It is a highly legible typeface that overcomes reading barriers even for those with dyslexia. It is used as the default font for online educational activities. The aim is to facilitate the academic journey of students with Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), offering them a new type of teaching that goes beyond the traditional norms and is more tailored to their needs.
Under the contract, the licensor has granted the University the right to use the Font for installation on computers within its own facilities and on the personal computers of the teachers in order to create both paper and digital formats:
EasyReading is available for free for personal and non-profit use.
VRAIlexia (Partnering Outside the Box: Digital and Artificial Intelligence Integrated Tools to Support Higher Education Students with Dyslexia), funded under the Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership for Higher Education program, has the main objective of defining innovative services and tools to support the academic careers of students with learning disabilities.
UNITUS is the project leader and the only institution in Italy to have undertaken this path, which will allow dyslexic students to complete their educational journey as planned. They will be provided with innovative tools. In particular, through collaboration with European universities (Spain, France, Belgium) and private educational and dissemination organizations (Portugal, Greece, GIUNTI PSY), researchers in artificial intelligence and virtual reality, psychologists, and sociologists will work to develop a platform called beSPECIAL. This platform, with the assistance of artificial intelligence and virtual reality, can be used by students with dyslexia to improve their learning methods, personalized for each individual, and ensure increasingly active inclusion in the academic world.
More information here.
The course, through seminars and workshops, aims to provide a set of knowledge and skills aimed at a more conscious performance of tutoring activities promoted by UNITUS in favor of students with disabilities and/or Specific Learning Disorders (SLD). However, the entire UNITUS student community is invited to participate, with the perspective of fully embracing diversity as an opportunity for all. Attending the course establishes a priority requirement for those who will participate in calls for peer tutoring and other inclusion-related calls.
At the end of the course, a certificate of participation will be issued.
For students enrolled in UNITUS degree programs, attending the course will result in the assignment of 1 ECTS credit.
