The DEB takes center stage at the inauguration of the Biodiversity Research Center of the Lucanian Apennines National Park

Last Saturday in Spinoso, the Biodiversity Research Center of the Lucanian Apennines National Park was inaugurated — a new scientific facility set to become a reference point for environmental research at both national and international levels.

The project is the result of a joint effort by the National Park, the Municipality of Spinoso, and the Department of Ecological and Biological Sciences (DEB) of the University of Tuscia, which oversaw the scientific design and will coordinate the Center’s research and training activities.

Equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation, the Center embodies the close collaboration among the three institutions, thanks to a team effort led by Park President Antonio Tisci, Director Giuseppe Luzzi, engineer Tina Coppola, and councilor Laura Mongiello, with the contribution of Dr. Antonella Logiurato, Mayor De Luise, and the Department Director, Prof. Daniele Canestrelli.

On the occasion of the inauguration, Prof. Canestrelli outlined the planned scientific activities and highlighted the potential the new Center will offer both to the local area and to the global scientific community, fostering advanced research, citizen science, and the promotion of the Park’s unique environmental features.

Through this initiative, the DEB Department of Tuscia reaffirms its strategic role in ecological research, providing expertise and know-how in support of biodiversity conservation and the enhancement of the nation’s natural capital.
