The University of Tuscia and the Provincial Assonautica of Viterbo join forces to protect the sea

A Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions is ready to be signed, and a guided tour of the Department of Ecological and Biological Sciences’ Marine Experimental Hatchery Centre at the Borgo delle Saline in Tarquinia is scheduled for August 7th.

To strengthen joint efforts in protecting the sea and marine biodiversity, a Memorandum of Understanding is ready to be signed between the Provincial Assonautica of Viterbo and the Department of Ecological and Biological Sciences of the University of Tuscia, which manages the Marine Experimental Hatchery Centre within the Tarquinia Saltworks Nature Reserve.

The announcement was made by Professor Giuseppe Nascetti, Emeritus Professor of Ecology, and Luca Piras, President of the Provincial Assonautica of Viterbo: “We are about to sign an agreement to jointly develop initiatives aimed at increasing knowledge of and providing tangible protection for this coastal marine environment. This partnership brings together complementary strengths in support of the sea. While the Assonautica’s statutory objectives include promoting the blue economy, fostering cultural activities and knowledge of the marine environment, encouraging its sustainable use, and safeguarding and protecting marine ecosystems, the University’s mission is to advance marine sciences and to enhance and disseminate research findings on marine and coastal ecosystems.“

The first initiative under the agreement will take place on August 7th  at 5:00 p.m. with a guided tour of the Marine Experimental Hatchery Centre, located in the picturesque Borgo delle Saline within the Tarquinia Saltworks Nature Reserve. The tour is open to the public, and reservations (up to a maximum of 40 participants) can be made by contacting Dr Marialetizia Palomba (marialetizia.palomba@unitus.it), lecturer in Marine Parasitology at the University of Tuscia.
