Project duration: 01/10/2024 – 31/03/2026 (18 months)
The Ministry of University and Research, within the call dedicated to “Transnational Education (TNE) Initiatives in the field of education,” has funded, with PNRR resources, the project “Green&Pink for Sustainable Education – GPS Education.”
The Lead Partner is the University of Foggia, which coordinates 9 Italian universities and 41 foreign universities located in Argentina, Brazil, Cambodia, China, Georgia, Morocco, Kenya, Palestine, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Among the Italian universities involved, in addition to the Politecnico di Milano, are the Universities of Messina, Basilicata, Calabria, Sannio, Enna Kore, Modena and Reggio Emilia, Verona, and also the University of Tuscia.
The Green&Pink for Sustainable Education project aims to enhance the international dimension and cooperation between Italian and international universities, with the main objective of promoting continuing education and training activities focused on the concept of sustainability, explored through different perspectives, approaches, and research lines.
The project addresses the cross-cutting principles set out by the PNRR and the Gender Equality Plan, and specifically develops themes related to climate contribution and the digital objective (GREEN), the principle of gender equality (PINK), and the requirement to empower young people by overcoming territorial disparities.
Scientific coordinator for UNITUS: Prof. Alessandro Fusi.

The main objective of the GPS project is to promote various education and lifelong learning actions focused on the concept of sustainability, explored through different perspectives, approaches, and research lines. The project addresses the cross-cutting principles set out by the NRRP and the Gender Equality Plan, such as the contribution to climate sustainability and digital innovation (GREEN) and the principle of gender equality (PINK), as well as the requirement to empower young people and overcome territorial disparities.
The project is developed through four substantial dimensions (targets):
Ecological transition, land degradation–regeneration, nature-based solutions, and wastewater reuse and recycling;
Economic–social and financial tools to reduce land degradation and revitalise marginal rural areas;
Medicine and social innovation, with a strong emphasis on gender equality and green digital tools;
Gender and sustainability, technological innovation, and innovative teaching.
The project foresees the mobility of approximately 185 incoming/outgoing students and 150 lectures; the creation of two Postgraduate Specialisation Master’s degrees, a Cross-Cutting Advanced Course, and an Advanced Course on “Medic Emerg” skills. The consolidation of a Double Degree is also planned.
The expected results can be described in terms of innovation, internationalisation, cooperation, and promotion of academic programmes:
Innovation: the transnational educational initiatives will address different models, concepts, and sectors (economics, humanities, medicine, agroecosystems, ecology) related to sustainability.
Internationalisation: involvement of various Italian regions, different countries and contexts with heterogeneous levels of socio-economic development. All universities participate collectively, as each partner institution has gathered the interests of different departments.
Cooperation and promotion of academic programmes: promotion of training programmes and new educational methodologies through networking among partner countries, as well as cross-cutting training aimed at combating violence against women.
