Rewriting the Cities. Semiotics of Street Art for Social Policies

12 November 2025 - 13:00 / 15:00

On Tuesday, November 12, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., the presentation of the book Rewriting the Cities. Semiotics of Street Art for Social Policies will take place in the DISTU Aula Magna (Via San Carlo, 32, Viterbo). The volume explores the presence of graffiti as a form of social communication that has spanned the centuries—from the inscriptions of Pompeii to the walls of contemporary cities. The authors adopt a semiotic perspective to investigate spontaneous inscriptions in public spaces as cultural traces, signs of belonging, and tools for social dialogue.

Speakers:
Tiziana Migliore, University of Urbino “Carlo Bo”

Orlando Paris, University for Foreigners of Siena

Raffaella Petrilli, University of Tuscia

Moderator:
Diego Femia, University of Tuscia

The event is open to everyone and is part of the courses in Semiotics (L11), Pragmatics and Argumentation (LM37), Semiotics of the Arts (LM2/89), and Political and Public Languages (LM62).
