How does the course work?

# FIRST STREAM: The participation in ten online lectures (total 24 hours):

Two of the lectures (one introductory and one final) are exclusively for Unitus students. The introductory lecture explores the main theories of equality, theoretical perspectives and key concepts of the course course (e.g., non discrimination, intersectionality), as well as the main principles of the clinical legal method directed at Unitus students; the final lecture will consist of a summary of the content;

Eight lectures take place together with international lecturers and students within the Equality Law program, coordinated by the Berkeley Center on Comparative Equality & Anti-Discrimination Law (BCCE), University of California, Berkeley (U.S.) and Portsmouth Law School (U.K.), followed by a 30 minutes debriefing meeting exclusively for Unitus students.

Class times: Every Thursday at 5:00 p.m. (until 22 October 2026); 4:00 p.m. from 29 October 2026 onward, due to Daylight Saving Time.

# SECOND STREAM: Experiential learning (12 hours): This stream of activities is based on the principles of learning by doing and the clinical legal method. It is carried out under the guidance of the professor coordinating the E-Lab. Assignments are completed independently by the students at home. Meeting times for supervision and submission deadlines are agreed upon during the course

This component of the E-Lab is carried out as part of the activities developed in cooperation with the Equality For All Academic Action Alliance, an international network promoted by the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR).

In the 2026-2027 academic year, students will have the option of choosing between two types of assignments related to equality, inequality, differences, and non-discrimination: a. Accomplish small research on selected topics; b. Translate brief legal documents

Requirements

• Be a student enrolled in “Law” (LMG/01) or “Security and Human Rights” (LM90)
• Have a fair knowledge of Please note that students without an English certificate are welcome. They will be invited to a brief online interview with the E-Lab coordinator prior to acceptance
• Commit to participating regularly in the course
• Be interested in equality and non-discrimination law
