DEB | Master’s Thesis Opportunity

Starting from October 2026, an opportunity for an experimental thesis is available at the Biomolecular Materials Laboratory, under the supervision of Prof. Giordano Poneti and Dr. Eliana Capecchi.

The thesis project focuses on the study and use of naturally derived organic substances for energy applications, with particular emphasis on carbon dioxide (CO₂) electroreduction processes. CO₂ electroreduction is a promising strategy for the valorisation of this by-product of human activities by converting it into compounds of interest for energy and industrial applications, within approaches aimed at sustainability and the circular economy.

The experimental work will focus on the evaluation of naturally derived molecules and materials capable of promoting the electrochemical process and will include:

  • synthesis and characterisation of materials;
  • experimental laboratory activities;
  • data processing and interpretation;
  • literature review;
  • critical discussion of the results.

The thesis offers the opportunity to explore an interdisciplinary and highly topical subject at the intersection of biology, biotechnology, materials science and green chemistry, while developing expertise in the use of electroactive natural materials and their application within circular and sustainable approaches.

For further information and to assess the compatibility of the project with your academic background, please contact Prof. Giordano Poneti at giordano.poneti@unitus.it, indicating your degree programme and attaching your study plan.
