Learning objectivesThe course aims to analyze the diachronic journey through which Greek and Latin literary texts have reached our days, starting from papyri. During the course, we will study the writing materials used in antiquity for the transmission of Greek-Latin texts: tablets, ostraka, and papyri, as well as the parchment codex that gradually replaces the papyrus scroll in a slow but inexorable transition from the 1st to the 6th century AD. Particular attention will be given to the papyrus, from its construction as a scroll to its use as a book and medium for the transmission of texts and culture in antiquity. With the help of Artificial Intelligence, we will explore how new technologies are a valuable and essential support for the reconstruction of the papyrus scroll and for the complex rocess of integrating a lacunary text. |
