Learning objectivesCourse on Design ElementsThe guiding hypothesis of the course "Elements of Territorial and Landscape Analysis" is to firmly connect the analysis phase with that of interpretation and design proposal, highlighting how analyses are always inevitably connected and bound to a specific design purpose, whether explicit or implicit.The objectives of the course are to provide basic knowledge to understand the importance and functional role of the plant component in landscape planning and design, and the landscape as a place for living beings. More specifically, the course pursues the following objectives:• Knowledge and comprehension skills: understand the concept of landscape as introduced by the European Landscape Convention. Understand key concepts related to the workspace of the landscape architect: soil, water, vegetation, stakeholders, history (dynamics).• Use of knowledge and understanding skills: being able to carry out thematic analyses and landscape readings, also using basic and thematic technical maps for the purpose of understanding and designing the landscape; being able to interpret the system of relationships that define a given landscape.• Ability to draw conclusions: acquiring autonomy in analyzing and evaluating a given territorial context (limits and possibilities) in order to develop improvement proposals (project).• Communication skills: the ability to argue verbally and through the drafting of technical and/or communicative drawings the fundamental characteristics of a landscape, critical assessments regarding the transformability of a space, the objectives, actions, and interventions that make up a project proposal.• Learning ability: Learning specific terminology; logically connecting acquired knowledge; identifying the most relevant themes of the topics covered; to acquire a landscape design methodology. |

Students will learn qualitative and quantitative techniques to analyze territorial phenomena, developing operational, critical, and communication skills useful in research and professional contexts. In particular:1. Knowledge and understanding: The course provides fundamental theoretical and methodological knowledge to understand the purposes, areas of application, and main techniques of territorial investigations. Students will gain an in-depth understanding of territorial data sources, both primary and secondary, as well as the qualitative and quantitative approaches used in territorial analysis.2. Applied knowledge and understanding: Students will be able to apply the knowledge acquired in the design, conducting and analyzing interviews, questionnaires, and focus groups. In addition, they will be able to use existing data (e.g., censuses, socio-demographic statistics) and technical-administrative documents for analytical purposes.
