The Master’s Degree in Archival Science and Artificial Intelligence (LM-5) is an international program offered entirely in English at the Rieti campus. The course is delivered in a “mixed” mode, which envisages, for activities other than practical and laboratory activities, the delivery by telematic means of a portion of the educational activities, in any case not exceeding two-thirds. Admission to the program is open, and candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree.
Specific curricular requirements will be verified during enrollment.
The course was designed to address the growing demand for specialized training that is not yet fully met by the current regional and national educational offerings. It combines the strengths of traditional training in documentation with the potential of cutting-edge technologies, particularly in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and digital innovation. With its interdisciplinary and international focus, the program aims to provide an innovative pathway for the advanced management of documentary, archival, and manuscript sources, alongside their communication through emerging technologies and AI.
The Master’s Degree Program aims to train graduates who possess:
• Advanced theoretical, methodological, and practical skills in the fields of archival science, bibliography, and library science, in dialogue with communication disciplines;
• Mastery in the use of new technologies applied to documentation, with a particular focus on Artificial Intelligence. In particular, Master’s graduates in programs within this degree class should be able to perform high-level responsibilities in both analog and digital environments, and specifically should be able to:
• Organize and manage archival-library collections in any format and on any medium, with particular focus on identification, analysis, selection, description, arrangement, and preservation
activities;
• Contribute to the design of models for data representation, relationships, and access to documentary resources;
• Participate in the design and coordination of activities and services, as well as manage technological tools, human resources, and financial assets;
• Communicate and enhance the value of archival-library collections, in relation to study and research activities, promotion, and user services, also from an interdisciplinary perspective, with
particular attention to the available technological resources;
• Design research, in-depth studies, and events that, starting from the archival and library context, can enhance the cultural heritage of nations.
Starting from these premises, the Master’s Degree Program will also provide:
• The ability to correctly use the IT tools necessary for the documentary organization of collections and the management of services, including the conscious communication of documentary content on the Web;
• Basic competencies to manage activities related to knowledge, management, communication, and promotion of texts.
In order to access the Master’s Degree program, candidates, including those seeking to transfer from another Master’s program, must meet the following curricular requirements:
Admission: Oral interview
Positions of high responsibility within public or private organizations and systems, including those in the third sector, such as archives, libraries, or other cultural institutions and sites (such as superintendencies, museums, public and private cultural organizations, foundations, research centers, organizations active in the promotion of books and reading), companies, and professional studios, as well as freelance activities and specialized consultancy for
companies and operators in the cultural and publishing sectors.
The Master’s Degree program also provides graduates with the opportunity to continue their studies, allowing admission to first and second-level Master’s programs, PhD programs, and specialization schools. Regarding further academic paths, the University of Tuscia offers a PhD in “Historical Sciences and Cultural Heritage”; which provides a suitable continuation
of studies. Additionally, the design of a second-level Master’s program titled “Cataloging the
Medieval Liturgical Manuscript: Description, Digitization, and Enhancement” is in an advanced stage. This program requires a Master’s degree (LM-5) as an entry requirement.
