Workshop on the biodiversity of wetlands in Rome and the surrounding area

15 January 2026

On Thursday January 15th, in Rome, a workshop organized by the regional authority RomaNatura will take place, focusing on the knowledge, monitoring, and conservation of biodiversity in wetland areas within the city and the surrounding territories. The event will provide an opportunity for dialogue and exchange among researchers, managers of protected areas, environmental professionals, and interested citizens, aiming to explore the ecological value of these ecosystems and the most recent scientific methodologies applied to their conservation.

During the workshop, Dr. Francesco Cerini, researcher from our Department, will present the results of a sampling campaign based on environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis, carried out across all water bodies within the network of protected areas managed by RomaNatura. The presentation will focus in particular on dragonflies, a group of insects closely associated with wetland environments and widely recognized as important indicators of ecosystem health.
