{"id":5833,"date":"2022-06-01T00:57:39","date_gmt":"2022-05-31T22:57:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unitusweb.azurewebsites.net\/ricerca\/progetti-di-ricerca-2\/harnesstom\/"},"modified":"2024-08-26T14:48:59","modified_gmt":"2024-08-26T12:48:59","slug":"harnesstom","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.unitus.it\/en\/research\/progetti-di-ricerca\/harnesstom\/","title":{"rendered":"Progetto HARNESSTOM"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>&#8220;Harnessing the value of tomato genetic resources for now and the future&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ABSTRACT<\/strong><br \/>\nThe project<em> \u201cHARNESSTOM: harnessing the value of tomato genetic resources for now and the future\u201d<\/em>, funded by the EU in the frame of Sustainable Food Security SFS-2020,<em> \u201cFood security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine, maritime and inland water research and the bioeconomy\u201d<\/em>, aims to demonstrate that proper use of plant genetic resources is a key factor for food quality and security and can bring innovation and benefits for all the stakeholders.<br \/>\nBy using the knowledge acquired in previous EU-funded projects to associate phenotypes to genotypes in several tomato types from different germplasm banks and universities, HARNESSTOM wants first to gather, centralize, and standardize all the available information in a public system easily accessible by several users\u2019 categories. Second, HARNESSTOM will develop four prebreeding programs focusing on the major objectives in this field:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>introduce genes conferring resistance towards emerging pathogens,<\/li>\n<li>improve the tolerance of tomato towards abiotic stresses due to climate changes,<\/li>\n<li>improve fruit quality,<\/li>\n<li>increase resilience of European landraces through participative breeding.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>A further objective is to speed up breeding schemes and make plant breeding more efficient towards emerging needs.<br \/>\nThe relationship between the Academia and Industry in each workpackage of the project and the participation of non-profit orgnizations guarantee that the results from the project will have an impact on industrial innovation as well as on consumers and society.<\/p>\n<p>The project is coordinated by Prof. Antonio Granell (Agencia Estatal Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cient\u00edficas, CSIC, Valencia, Spagna) and include a team of experts from 22 partners of seven different countries, among which are<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bulgaria (Maritsa Vegetable Crops Research Institute, Dr. Ivanka Tringovska),<\/li>\n<li>France (Institut National de Recherche pour l&#8217;Agriculture, l&#8217;Alimentation et l&#8217;Environnement, Dr Mathilde Causse; Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse, Dr. Mohamed Zouine; Gautier Semences SAS, Dr. Cl\u00e9mence Plissonneau; Vilmorin &amp; Cie, Dr. Benoit Gorguet),<\/li>\n<li>Israel (The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Prof.Dani Zamir; Top Seeds International Ltd, Dr. Liron Shalom; Phenom Networks Ltd, Dr. Yaniv Semel),<\/li>\n<li>Italy (Agenzia Nazionale per le Nuove Tecnologie, l\u2019Energia e lo Sviluppo Economico Sostenibile, Prof. Giovanni Giuliano; Universit\u00e0 degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, Prof. Mara Ercolano; La Semiorto Sementi Srl, Dr. Mina Formisano; Universit\u00e0degli Studi della Tuscia (Prof. Andrea Mazzucato),<\/li>\n<li>The Netherlands (Wageningen University, Dr. Yuling Bai),<\/li>\n<li>Spain (Agencia Estatal Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cient\u00edficas, Prof. Antonio Granell; Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica de Valencia, Prof. Mar\u00eda J.
