SUMMARY:“Ethical and Scientific Aspects” | first meeting of the series “Environment and Society”
DESCRIPTION:On October 23\, 2025\, at 5:00 p.m.\, the “Environment and Society – Protection and Enhancement of Urban and Coastal Landscapes” series will open at the Cittadella “Semi di Pace” in Tarquinia. The initiative is promoted by Semi di Pace ODV\, Demos 23\, Assolidi\, the Società Tarquiniense d’Arte e Storia\, the cultural association La Lestra\, and Unicoop Tirreno – Sezione Soci Etruria. \nThe program aims to foster a shared reflection on the protection of the Tarquinia landscape—between the coast and the urban center—and on the value of the territory as a common good\, to be preserved and enhanced through knowledge and participation. \nThe first meeting\, entitled “Ethical and Scientific Aspects” will feature Giuseppe Nascetti\, Professor Emeritus of Ecology\, and Gianluca Piovesan\, Full Professor in the Degree Course in Natural and Environmental Sciences\, both from the Department of Ecological and Biological Sciences (DEB) at the University of Tuscia. \nIn their talks\, the two professors will contribute to the discussion on landscape protection by exploring the relationship between scientific knowledge\, ethical responsibility\, and the sustainable management of natural resources. They will focus in particular on the value of Tarquinia’s coastal and urban landscapes\, and on conservation strategies that integrate biodiversity\, local identity\, and quality of life. \nThe event will serve as a moment of dialogue between research\, civic engagement\, and local institutions\, in line with the DEB’s commitment to promoting the University’s Third Mission. \nBROCHURE

SUMMARY:Unitus for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
DESCRIPTION:On the afternoon of November 25\, in the presence of the Rector\, the University of Tuscia will host two events dedicated to commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. \nAt 3:00 p.m.\, in the “Corridoio delle Monofore” of the Rectorate\, the Digital Exhibition titled “Women Who Move: A Tribute to Women’s Strength on 25/11” will take place\, featuring the photographic projects of five professional photographers. The common thread is a visual exploration of the different expressions of strength and resilience among migrant women. The exhibition\, curated by Sonia Melchiorre and Daniela Vitiello\, was organized with the patronage of the CUG and supported by the CoSME project (PRIN 2/2022). \nFollowing this\, in the “Mahsa Amini” courtyard of the Rectorate\, the second edition of “Paint it Red” will be held\, a flash mob organized by the UNITUS student associations under the coordination of Sonia Melchiorre. The flash mob aims to raise awareness about the dangers of emotional manipulation (gaslighting) and to acknowledge the dignity of women who live in this condition\, recognizing their need to be seen and supported. Anyone wishing to participate may contribute with a pair of used shoes\, which will be sprayed red and later placed as “stumbling stones” in the city center and on the university campus.

DESCRIPTION:Since 2022\, the Department of Ecological and Biological Sciences (DEB) has offered a spring seminar series focused on scientific dialogue. This year\, the Spring DEBates return in a completely renewed format: national and international professors and researchers will share their work\, ideas\, and perspectives on the most current scientific issues. \nThe series\, coordinated by Prof. Giovanni Polverino\, is part of the training activities of the PhD program in “Ecology and Sustainable Management of Environmental Resources\,” but participation is open to everyone. It consists of eight independent talks and will begin on February 19 and conclude on May 28. The seminars will be held in a hybrid format (in-person at the DEB classrooms and/or online via live Zoom streaming) on Thursday afternoons\, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM\, biweekly. \nThe fifth edition will be inaugurated by Prof. Nicolò Colombani\, Associate Professor at the Department of Sciences and Engineering of Matter\, Environment\, and Urban Planning at the Polytechnic University of Marche\, with a talk titled “Salinity origins and patterns in shallow groundwater bodies of the Po River lowland.” \nAll PhD students in Ecology and Sustainable Management of Environmental Resources will earn 1 ECTS credit upon attending all the seminars. \nParticipation does not require registration: links for online seminars will be published on the DEB website and social media channels one week before each event. \nYou can check out the full schedule of the seminar series here. \nDownload the poster for the first seminar here.
