SUMMARY:Ethology Going Wild: Linking conservation\, animal behaviour\, and cognitive studies in the wild
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, July 1st\, 2025\, the workshop titled “Ethology Going Wild: Linking conservation\, animal behaviour\, and cognitive studies in the wild” will take place at the  Ichthyogenic Experimental Marine Centre (CISMAR)*\, located within the “Tarquinia Salterns” Nature Reserve. The initiative is one of the winning projects of the SIE 2025 Call promoted by the Italian Society for Ethology (SIE). \nThe workshop will be held in English and will focus on a key theme for the future of research: the integration of ethology into conservation\, with particular attention to the role and challenges of cognitive studies conducted in natural environments. The day will include four scientific talks\, along with dedicated moments for discussion and direct interaction with the speakers. \nActive audience participation will be encouraged throughout the event to foster a constructive and interdisciplinary exchange between theoretical and applied research. \nWorkshop Program\n10:00 AM | Institutional greetings and introduction10:15  AM| Icebreaking activity11:00 AM | Mark O’Hara and Berenika Mioduszewska: Stories from the field: Exploring the cognitive ecology of wild Goffin’s cockatoos1:00 PM | Free lunch break (Please note lunch is not provided)2:30 PM | Claudio Carere: Collective escape responses to a robotic falcon3:30 PM | Jasmin Firozpoor: Working for the Wild: Insights into practical conservation4:30 PM | Discussion and closing remarks \nThe workshop is open to students\, researchers\, professionals\, and anyone interested in exploring the value of ethology applied to biodiversity conservation. \nLa participation is free\, but due to high interest and limited seats\, it is necessary to register in advance by contacting Dr. Valeria Mazza at: valeria.mazza@unitus.it. \nFlyer \n*The Tarquinia Salterns\, where CISMAR is located\, are within a restricted traffic zone (ZTL). However\, it is still possible to reach CISMAR by car: vehicles can drive up to the barriers\, which are located just a few dozen meters from the facility. Once there\, simply scan the QR code available on site to register your license plate and avoid any fines.

SUMMARY:CREA-UNITUS SEMINAR SERIES |
DESCRIPTION: JULY 9 | 3:00 PM\n Registration:   https://seminaricreaunitus.crea.gov.it/ \nThe seminar aims to describe what is meant by inclusive decision-making model and how these processes have developed in the context of natural resource management. The main methods useful for actively involving stakeholders and citizens in decision-making processes will then be presented. Specifically\, the most widespread methods present in the literature will be illustrated\, focusing on the organizational and implementation phases of the following three participatory methods: focus groups\, world cafés (or scientific cafés) and field trips. For each method\, the conditions and situations in which it is convenient to adopt it\, its advantages and disadvantages\, and precautions to follow will be described. Finally\, specific case studies will be presented within which participatory decision-making processes have been developed in the context of forest management. \n The webinar is part of the training project “Towards Green Horizons”\, organized within the framework of the excellence project D.I.Ve.r.So.\nThe Order of Agronomists and Foresters of Viterbo will grant 0.25 Professional Training Credits (CFP) for each seminar; the Territorial College of Graduate Agricultural Experts of the Province of Rome will grant 2 CFP per seminar; the National College of Agrotechnicians will also grant 2 CFP per seminar.\nThe training project counts toward the annual 40-hour training performance target outlined in the Directive of the Minister for Public Administration dated January 16\, 2025. Credit recognition is subject to passing a final assessment test administered at the end of each event. \nLocandina Evento

SUMMARY:QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE TOOLS FOR SOCIAL ANALYSIS IN NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
DESCRIPTION: JULY 16 | 3:00 PM\n Registration:   https://seminaricreaunitus.crea.gov.it/ \nThe seminar aims to illustrate the main tools used to develop socioeconomic analyses in the field of natural resources management. The difference between quantitative and qualitative tools will be explained\, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of each technique and providing elements to evaluate the appropriateness of their use. Specifically\, attention will be focused on two main data collection tools: structured and semi-structured questionnaires and in-depth interviews. Both questionnaires\, used to collect qualitative information\, and interviews\, used to collect quantitative data\, will be described. A focus will serve to clarify when it is more appropriate to adopt one or the other tool and the precautions to follow in their use. The methods to follow for the collection and processing of the data obtained will then be described. SUMMARY:CARBON FARMING AND THE CERTIFICATION METHODOLOGY FOR THE AGRICULTURAL AND FORESTRY SECTOR: A FOCUS ON EU REGULATION July 21
DESCRIPTION: JULY 21 | 3:00 PM\n Registration:   https://seminaricreaunitus.crea.gov.it/ \nThe European Green Deal aims to make Europe climate neutral by 2050 and\, to make this objective legally binding\, the Commission has issued the European Climate Law which also sets a further and more ambitious target of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. Achieving this target would require amendments to a number of existing legislative proposals\, including the Efforts Sharing Regulation (NO-ETS sector)\, the Land Use\, Land Use Change and Forestry Regulation (LULUCF sector) and the Renewable Energy Directive. In the Land Use\, Land Use Change and Forestry Regulation\, more ambitious targets are proposed to expand the EU’s natural carbon sink\, which is essential to offset emissions and achieve climate neutrality.
