Recently, the scientific interest of the laboratory was mainly focused on the study of human neurodegenerative diseases, using Drosophila melanogaster as a genetic model system. We use transgenic flies to investigate the hallmarks of taupathies, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases, including cellular and behavioral phenotypes, such as neural cell cycle progression, mitotic execution, larval crawling and adult climbing.

The Laboratory is equipped with:

  • Over 50 Drosophila stocks, including transgenic flies mimicking human diseases.
  • CCD-equipped Fluorescence microscope.
  • Confocal microscope.
