C.V.:

  • 1978: honour degree al the Faculty of Agricultural Sceinces of Pisa University in 1978.

  • 1978-85: various fellowships. Participation to various research projects handled by the Istituto di Agronomia Generale e Coltivazioni Erbacee of Pisa University, mainly in the field of oil crops husbandry.

  • 1985-2000: lecturer and afterwards associate professor of Range Science (from 1987) and Weed Control (from 1995) at Tuscai University. Research and coordination responsibility in various MURST, MIPAF, CNR (national and international) research projects, mainly aimed to study the management of intercrop/intercrop or crop/weed competitive effects, and consequent possibilities of reducing agrochemical inputs to cropping systems.

  • 1987: 12 months research stage at the Department of Agricultural Botany of Reading University (UK) to learn the methodology of study of competitive interactions among herbage plants.

  • Member of the Italian Society of Agronomy (SIA), of the Italian Weed Research Society (SIRFI), and of the European Weed Research Society (EWRS).

  • Secretary of the Council of Degree Course in Scienze e Tecnologie Agrarie and account auditor of the SIRFI.

Research interests

  • Crop/weeds competitive interactions: quantitative determination and study metodology of competition effects

  • Factors enhancing crop competitive ability against weeds

  • Chemical integrated and non-chemical weed control, with particular emphasis to the application of cultural means (crop husbandry choices which can enhance crop competitive ability)

  • Organic farming, with particular emphasis to weed control.
